| "The Terai Arc Landscape in Nepal is populated by 6.7 million people. 60 per cent of households own less than 1 hectare of land. The average annual income for a person is US$100. 61 per cent of households rely on wood as their main fuel for cooking. Most get their fodder from forests." source WWF The Terai Arc of India & Nepal is a landscape vital to wildlife and the people who live there. Wild Tiger is committed to the preservation of this environment. Over the years, children have suffered. Many have become orphans, child soldiers and been displaced. The ravages of civil conflict and environmental damage means these children are in need of help. Play your part...these children are the future. Their relationship with their environment is crucial. PROJECT FUTURE GUARDIANS The key word in Project Future Guardians (PFG) is "Future". Conservation in general is facing challenges like never before. Expanding population means habitat encroachment and pressures on key environments and biodiversity hotspots that are stretching environmental resources to the limit. The conservationist of today is dealing with issues that will ultimately determine the future of the environment in general. The Terai Arc of Nepal and India is a strong example of this situation. If managed correctly the Tiger and all living beings part of this diverse region can be preserved and flourish thus giving future generations continuing health and connection to this amazing landscape. PFG is about providing for the future of the Terai by equipping and training new conservationists. It is about providing employment and pride. It is about giving young people the connection to their land and the resources to protect it. Wild Tiger is currently in dialogue with several parties in the planning of PFG. As the peace process in Nepal becomes stronger and the dawn of an era begins with the writing of the constitution scheduled for mid 2010, we look forward to announcing the details of this exciting project. This project is nothing more than the young people of Nepal deserve. Thank you for playing your part. PROJECT IWT STOP Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) is a global problem. Rich biodiversity regions are being plundered. Among them are the forests and jungles of Asia. This multi billion dollar trans national crime is the responsibility of us all. As an organisation, Wild Tiger continues the commitment to combat IWT. Project IWT Stop is about equipping underpaid, under resourced anti poaching and investigative units in their struggle. The many individuals involved in this often dangerous pursuit need the support of those who can help. The future of these forests and jungles depends on it. |
