A very short TigerMail this month - please have a quick read and a long
ponder...

Err...umm...Merry (hang on, that's Christmas), I mean, Happy
Valentines Day for 14 february.  Before those who know me jump to the
conclusion that I have fallen out of my tree and bumped my head,
knowing V Day isn't really my gig, please just read on.

14 February is also two years into the twelve year Chinese Calendar cycle
for Year of the Tiger i.e. the last Year of the Tiger started 14/02/10.

Since then, a lot of meetings, a lot of money and a lot more awareness
into the plight of the great cat and wildlife in general.  The biggest call is
the aim to double the wild tiger population by the next Year of the Tiger
in 2022.

Hmmm...
According to the Rubik's cube in my head that means the 3200 supposed population in 2010  should have increased to maybe
a bit over 3700 by now?

Not sure about that one.

Back to Valentine's Day.  What a shame we can't use the passion and resources for this into a whole lot of days like "Let's sort
out the Syria situation Day" or similar.  Would it work?

There is passion in the tiger conservation world, plenty of it.  Protecting the tiger in actual fact is the romantic (I'm really
trying to be Valentinish here!) way of protecting, jungle, forest, habitat...us.  The awareness is there, there are a lot of
resources and there are some positive results.  There is still too much debate and mud slinging.  I wish half the people online
would actually just physically extract themselves from their devices and help out their local environment groups rather than
just spending all day commenting on bad news.

We know about the bad news.  Protecting the tiger means doing your bit for your local community forest, no matter where it
is in the world.  That's what the truly passionate ones are doing.  No fuss, no bother, no comments, just doing.

Ok, thanks for being a doing person.  Thank you also for the tremendous support we are getting at WildTiger.  We have some
exciting stuff coming up over the next few months, either Mark or myself will outline that next month.  Ours news format and
the way we present TigerMail will be upgraded soon.  I'm working along side a media advisor on a system which will involve
my blog, a kind of a "Jack in the Jungle" thing.  I've run a short piece called:

The Tiger is a stone cold killer...

to kick things off.  It's not as gruesome as it sounds :)

Enjoy your chocolate.
